Linkety.

Could be an interesting marriage of a processor company with a chipset/graphics chip company...

This could be good. But for some reason I always accociated ATI with intel and Nvdia with AMD. I wonder what will happen to Nvidia though. If ATI gains such an advantage from AMD then Nvidia might not be able to survive down the road. Then that might increase prices for graphics cards.

This would definitely be interesting. But I do wish there wasn't this awful constant merging... why do companies always have to consolidate rather than continue to do one thing well?

Over on digg, someone's pointed out that AMD's dropped desktop prices by 47% -- although the FX2 is still something like $850.

Because the CEOs and management teams a fundamentally incapable of improving things within the company, except by the cheesy revenue growth model (aka, buy buy buy.)

Heck, it is highly unusual for somebody to come into a company to actually improve things by cutting debt and streamlining operations -- unless the management team is a bankruptcy specialist.

Though Apple actually did everything right, cut debt, streamline, and then grow. But it made the stock toilet paper for awhile -- while long term strategies of years played out.

Which is why AMD decides to grow, instead of fix things -- where long term strategies are the next quartely report, or what's for lunch.
