Hi Folks,
I was using a USB-C to DVI Adapter for my Samsung SA850 which 'works' until I restart. Then I have to unplug/plug the cable to get it to display anything. Fine on sleep etc. Just a restart is the issue.

So I ordered a HDMI - DisplayPort cable: Up to 4K@30Hz backward compatible with 1440P@60hz, 1080P@120hz, etc thinking this would resolve the restart issue. Seems not. Doesn't display anything at all. Monitor doesn't detect a connection.

Any ideas?

Cheers

DisplayPort can be converted to HDMI, but HDMI can't be converted to DP without an active adapter and a lot of times don't work. People tested several HDMI to DP active adapters with 2019 Mac Pro and AFAIK no one worked.

How you are using it?

OK thanks. I tried it from my MBP via a hub and it didn't work either. So I'm guessing cable issue

With the cable - HDMI port on 5700 plugged into Displayport on the monitor. Doesn't work
With the adapter, USB-C on 5700 then DVI cable to DVI on monitor. Does work but need to unplug/plug after restart

I would have never guessed HDMI to DP doesn't work....

It works with the proper adapter.

DisplayPort to HDMI cables do not work as HDMI (source) to DisplayPort (display) unless that is specifically mentioned in the product description (in which case the cable does not work as DisplayPort source to HDMI display).

There are only a small number of display cables/adapters that are bidirectional:
- Mini DisplayPort to/from DisplayPort (because both sides are DisplayPort - same signal but different port shape).
- single link DVI to/from HDMI (not dual link DVI; same signal but different port shape).
- USB-C to/from DisplayPort (only those adapters marked as bidirectional are bidirectional).
