I'm trying to offload some FCP rendering tasks off my MacBook Pro 16 (2018). The fans never stop, so I figure the AMD W6600 Pro would work since the RX 6600XT works on Monterey and later. But it would seem that is not the case. No mater what, I'm not getting anything to work with this card in an EGPU enclosure.

So does the AMD W6600 Pro work with any macOS, even with OCLP, or am I wasting my time with it?

Thank you.

Yeah, this is where some frustrating specifics derail the helpfulness of eGPUs for Intel Mac users.

Unfortunately, Apple’s drivers for the AMD Wxxxx Pro series cards are written for the Intel Mac Pro.

My experience has been that AMD Wxxxx Pro eGPU based workflows are not supported by Apple’s drivers.

For example, some days FCP would run smoothly for 20 minutes with my 4K display being fed by my W5500 Pro card inside an eGPU enclosure.

And other days it ran great for about 2 minutes.

But, it def always crashed my intel Mac running Monterey.

Conversely, swapping in the non-pro RX 6600 XT turned out fine. No more issues with running FCP.

@M4pro thanks for the reply. I also have a Mac Pro 2009-2012 running Monterey via OCLP. Do you think I can get the W6600 card working there?
