This is the one and only thing that nearly got me to getting an S3 instead of waiting for the next iPhone.
It's that gorgeous, huge, colorful, wonderful, amazing, clear display. I personally think it's better than the Retina Display.
I was a Galaxy hater, but when I saw the display, all hate went away. This display is mind blowing.
What can you say? What are your reactions to AMOLED? Which one is better?
I disagree. The Galaxy S3 sub-pixel layout is terrible and you notice it especially when it comes to text. The Galaxy S2 has a
vastly superior display.
Also, I absolutely hate the blue hue. White isn't white. In some cases, I do like the vibrant colour and I obviously enjoy the deep blacks.
I absolutely believe OLED displays (yes, OLED, not AMOLED - all displays are Active Matrix) are the future, but right now I believe it's not good enough. Brightness is not high enough, it suffers from burn-in, power usage is too high when displays whites and it's got this, in my opinion, awful blue hue.
That doesn't mean the display in the Galaxy S3 is bad. I just believe it can be so much better.
Edit:
Also, I believe the HTC One X and the Sony Xperia S currently have the best displays on the market.
Sony Xperia S
- 1280 x 720 resolution, 4.3" display
- 341 (!) pixels per inch
- Mobile Bravia engine
- IPS technology
HTC One X
- 1280 x 720 resolution, 4.7" display
- 312 pixels per inch (which is good enough)
- 'slcd2'
- excellent viewing angles, maybe even better than what standard IPS offers
- excellent "colour temperature" (6461 K, the golden standard: 6500 K - iPhone 4S: 7070 K)
- 1210:1 contrast ratio, higher than any other LCD display in mobile phone
- Onliest disadvantage: maximum brightness of 432 cd/m² (iPhone 4S: 537 cd/m²)
