Amount of data to be consumed on 3G iPad?

When I get my 3G iPad, something tells me I'll easily hit a couple dozen gigabytes at minimum.

I enjoy the touch experience much more than clicking with a mouse. As Steve Jobs said, it's much more intimate. Heck, I use my iPhone for A LOT of my browsing, even when my laptop is beside me just because it's a lot easier to just pick up and interact with.

So, it'll basically become my laptop for internet use.

This means constant streaming of Slingbox over 3G (much higher resolution than iPhone, and my iPhone uses about 8MB/min streaming Slingbox over 3G), tons of internet browsing, streaming Pandora, downloading iTunes content and just being connected like crazy.

How do carriers like AT&T actually offer this for $30/mo when they won't even offer unlimited for $30/mo on an iPhone, let alone a much more full featured device like this?

Hey, I'm not complaining, but I'll be using the hell out of this. Rest assured, I'll be getting my $30 worth.

I just hope the carriers don't put soft caps (ie: unlimited is actually 5GB, or no more than 250MB/day) because otherwise I may just turn WiFi off.

Now if only this did up to 21MBps 3G and my glorious Canadian HSPA+ network could be used to its optimal usage.

So is anyone else planning to use the living hell out of their 3G iPad?

Hmm, you're right. If the iPad will work with China's 3G network, I'd seriously consider it. I mean, you get unlimited access everywhere. That's just awesome, haha. Almost sounds too good though, soft caps could be a possibility.

The most data per month I have used on my iPhone is when I run my Slingplayer for the NCAA tourney coming up at the end of march. I was running about 6 or 7 gigs last march as I had it running on my MBP and tethering via my Jailbroken iPhone. I think the newer 3g Slingplayer is running about 250mb per hour, so 20 hours a month before your even near the 5 gig mark. Considering AT&T has approved Slingplayer 3g I don't see them limiting the few people that will go over the 5gig mark. If you connect and pull 10 or 20 gigs a month somehow, over and over.. I'd suspect they will send you an email asking wth your doing.

If I don't use Slingplayer I rarely break 500mb a month. My wife who uses the iPhone non stop for surfing will eat up 1gig now and then but it's pretty rare for just surfing or the occasional music download on the go. Until the speeds increase to a point you can actually pull 3 or 5mbps via wireless 5gigs is a pretty big number. They will have to rethink their data caps (soft or hard) once LTE releases as the speed will enable much larger amounts of data to be used, streaming video and downloading movies etc... until then I think were safe from any actual caps.
