Amplitude is a simple application that enhances the sounds around you. You’ll be able to pick up even the faintest of sounds as if you were standing nearby.

All you have to do in order to use Amplitude is launch the application, point the built in mic (at the bottom) in the direction of the sound you want to amplify, then adjust the volume to your liking.

Use Amplitude to explore your world. Experience all the sounds of your environment that you would otherwise have missed.

iTunes: iTunes Store

Contest: We've heard from customers and fans about how they use Amplitude and now we want to see videos of the application in action. We will award $100 for the best video featuring Amplitude for iPhone in each of two categories ($200 total):

1) Instructional / Real-world Demo

2) Entertaining / Comedic

We’re reaching out to everyone who can pick up a camera, use their creativity and start shooting to see what interesting stories can be told about Amplitude.

This is a great app but it would be awesome if you include a noise suppresor. I mean, I want to be able to listen to the people on the other room only... Not listen to everything! With your app, I feel like I have rabbit ears because I can listen my self breathing and my bones cracking each time I move but I can't listen to the people talking on the other room cause I make too much noise!

I had to stop breathing and moving.

I would like:

Suppressing the sounds from loud power tools. When the unit is turned on, the the Speech Amplification Technology should to pick up voices and other desirable sounds to allow for normal conversations while reducing loud noises.

Hi Pika!

Thank you for the input :). Were you using Amplitude with headphones + mic? Or were you using the mic on the iPhone?

Noted. Thank you!

I'm using the Apple In-Ear Headphones + iPhone 3GS

But overal, you app is usefull! Amazing! I always wanted to listen like a rabbit.

Things for improvement
an equlaizer to allow us to filter certain background noises like AC vents and other constant noises. A high/low pass cut filter i guess.

I want to be able to zero in on a specifi sound range by moving sliders till I get the sounds I want to hear :)

an option to switch microphones, since I only have a headset with a built in mic, I would like to switch for the internal mic

I'm assuming that these headphones have a mic attached? If they do, the sound that's picked up is from the mic attached to the headphones (maybe why you can hear your breathing). If you use regular headphones without a mic, it will pick up everything from the iPhone mic at the bottom.

I just tested the app with regular headphones and I could hear my breathing but a lot less compared to headphones with a mic. Maybe it was because I was in a dead silent room. Usually whenever I test/use the app, there are other ambient noises going on so I don't really notice.

But thank you again Pika. It's good to know that it proves useful in situations. Again, I've taken your suggestions and will talk to the rest of the team to see what we can do.

MadGoat,

Duly noted :). Thank you for the suggestions. The ability to switch from the headphone mic to the iPhone mic should be a must.

As well as the ability to isolate sounds. Catching everything at once can be a bit chaotic :p.

Does the API even allow you to switch off the heaphone mic and switch to the mic on the phone? I would think that if it did, Ocarina would have done this a long time ago. This app would be really awesome if it could do this, but I'm wondering if it's an sdk limitation.

Hm, that's a good point. I'll be sure to get an answer as fast as I can.
