Need advice from those people buying an additional display to use with iMac 27.

Would you buy a smaller 24 inch iPS panel like Dell U2410 ($475 incl tax and shipping) or a 27 inch LED/TN panel (around $350 - 450) with the same size? I can also buy HP 2710M TN panle for $300

I'm not doing anything related to the Photo stuffs but Coding/Programming. So the Text should be crisp and clear ,easy to read .

Budget around $500, Please recommend any good 27 display that can meet my requirements, if you think I should go with the same size with my 27 iMac.

Thanks so much

The 24" Dell has a resolution of 1920 x 1200, just like the 24" LED Apple Cinema Display. The 27" HP has a resolution of 1920 x 1080, just like the 21.5" iMac.
The 27" iMac has a resolution of 2560 x 1440.

If you want crisp text, the Dell is the better deal.

So you dont care with the smaller size of the Dell? Using 27 display along with 24 one will not confuse you? I'm sorry to ask but i have never used the different size of display when programming . so I'm not sure if it will cause any effect.

Thanks

I care more about similar resolution, and as the 27" HP has a smaller resolution than the 24" Dell and even smaller resolution than the 27" iMac, I would go for the Dell, though I like my dual monitor setups do be consisting of two same monitors, or at least monitors with the same, or almost same, pixel density.

The 27" HP will look out of place next to the 27" iMac, regarding the resolution at least. Maybe the 24" Dell offers 90" rotation, which would make up for some things.

Anyway, currently I don't have a dual monitor setup at home, just at work, where all the monitors are the same model and resolution (20" and 24", 1280 x 1024 and 1920 x 1200, not in combination, just different work places), thus I prefer the same model/size/resolution variant, which is complicated with the 27" iMac of course, thus my proposal for rotatable displays.

Have a look at the "post a picture of your setup" thread for some inspiration.

Thanks a lot. However, there are very few people using an additional monitor with iMac 27 on those threads. The combination between Macbook Pro and an external monitor seems to be the most popular.

I agreed with you though regarding to the Dell U2410. Maybe I should give up on the TN panel

How about the Dell 27 inch? the U2711
It just seems that if you need it for programming, using 2 apple machines with that lovely mirror at the front will kill your eyes! but atleast you know you're looking pretty!
I am getting a display as well and so far the Dell stands out.. well in my opinion atleast

as sad as it sounds the BEST option is to buy a refurb 27 inch imac... looks the exact same, and hey gives you an extra computer to boot!
