4. Spend the cash mountain on people to improve software quality
5. Restore value for money. Stop screwing customers on storage, RAM, technology in general
6. Stop selling old products at lower prices - make the iPhone lineup like a car company lineup
7. Stop Jony Ive’s design team bottlenecking hardware development. Form multiple teams with responsibilities split between incremental and blue-sky change
8. Stop eroding the Apple ecosystem to just the iPhone - bring back the Airport, Apple Display
9. Stop selling all-in-ones i.e. iMac.
10. Fix the crappy Apple cable design
11. Dump TouchBar on laptops but retain TouchID

Someday, you will all wake up. You will stop yearning for updates which will never come. You will realize that Apple is not Apple (as we knew it) anymore. You will stop clammering for new Minis, for new iMacs, for new COMPUTERS. Because Apple doesn't do that, anymore. You simply come to realize that Apple died. And Apple is iDevices. And that is all. Tim Cook is the very (bland) face of the end. And the fact that he is gay earns him, in my estimation, way too may good will points. He is an undertaker. He buries things. First, Not complaining. I like and agree with most of your list....But...The problem with your list is that you are 'assuming' that Apple is "not great" right now. The definition of "Greatness" has changed (not my definition). By definition of a "business" as defined by most..$... Apple is great. For the "Old' Apple...of course it is a big, "No". As long as apple is rolling in the $, we will see the redefined definition of apple's greatness continue. Macs don't make the $ for apple and most of your list doesn't...

So why should apple change their direction? For innovation? To make the 'best' Macs? Stay out of personal agenda and politics? To be the best company as far as their products? That is dead. Long live the mighty $. This is apple's logo now... $

OP, what metric are you using determine that Apple is not great? Stock price, money in the bank, sales, quality, design? Because Apple leads is near the top in all of those categories.

As for your list, you cannot seriously think Cook would be willing to step down to be the COO again. Also the board of directors would have to force the issue and from a dollars and sense perspective he's been very successful.

You must not read the posts of your own site members. Steve Jobs understood the customer - Tim Cook is tone deaf.

This makes no sense, in one point you want all to restore the sales of two products that are not core to Apple's business, and kill off one that is. While I'm bummed out they did stop work on displays and the airport, I can see why they did it.

So you pretty much agree with Tim Cook that $ should be Apple's North Star - not Steve Jobs, who just wanted the customer to have the best stuff. It's about having holistic view of Apple's ecosystem. That's what brought Apple from near bankruptcy to greatness. Surely you must have seen all his videos, like the "lost interview" and '97 WWDC... and Tim Cook's non-response to the "What's your vision?" question in the quarterly earnings call.

Not my site, I'm just a volunteer and reading your post was confusing, i.e., resurrect the monitors and airport but kill off the iMac. That really doesn't make sense does it.

I didn't say I believe he should be CEO, but rather I was making a point that from a business perspective you don't fire someone when he's been wildly successful and he has. What business metric can you use that would justify is removal as CEO? He's grown the business, he's increased profits, Apple is a larger, richer company with a more diverse product and service offering then when Steve Jobs was running it.

I'm not knocking Jobs, and I think Cook has some significant deficiencies but he's an excellent manager of resources.

Yeah, there's little chance he'd go back to being COO. It's doubtful that a new CEO would even want him (as the former CEO) as COO. At any rate, absent some major scandal or Mr. Cook no longer wanting to be CEO, he isn't going anyway anytime soon. He enjoys tremendous support from shareholders. I think that support is well-deserved, and not only for the financial results that you refer to.
