hey guys

I'm trying some new techniques for my workflow and one thing I've been doing is vocal recordings then writing them up later.

I know the apple app "Notes" does have a function to transfer what I'm saying into written word but you need an internet connection and the time period is limited.

Can anyone recommend an app that does a similar job that doesn't require a network connection and works well?

Thanks guys

I don't have another app to recommend, but wanted to let you know that the dictation function in iOS is not limited to the notes app. Anywhere where you could type and see the microphone next to the space bar, dictation is available.

Apple does have an offline dictation option see this.

"Go into your Settings, tap the “General” section header and finally enter the “Keyboard” submenu. Scroll down a bit until you see the “Dictation” section. If you own a supported device that is set to the right language, you should be able to download the offline dictation files from here."

There are also loads of dictaphone/voice to text apps in the App Store but the majority seems to only work online indeed.
I did found DigiDictate Mobile app that mentions that it should also work offline. I haven't used it though so not sure if it will work for you and if it's accurate. UI wise it does look a bit outdated. It only supports English, French and German so it seems.

I notice that under About Dictation and Privacy... after you set it on, it says "You can use Dictation for English when you are not connected to the Internet." So it's automatically set to work offline.

You did make the changes in the settings as described on that website? What iOS version and iDevice are you using? Maybe it's then limited to certain iDevices like the website mentiones iPhone6s specifically. Although I don't understand why other iOS devices couldn't use it.

I am using iPhone 5S running iOS 10.2.1.. and that explains why the download option is not there as per that site. But anyway, still good to know and useful when I upgrade to the new iPhone.. may be that option should be under Siri settings rather than Keyboard.

I missed the hyperlink to that site in your previous post (blue highlight color for the hyperlink wasn't quite obvious). It's when you mentioned that website, I realized there was a link ;)

Anyway...thanks... useful info.

Hey guys

I have tried all the advice and ideas I've found but I'm pretty sure there is no way to do voice2text on stock IOS apps without an active internet connection. In fact the microphone is shadowed out no matter what settings are changed.

Unless anyone knows any different, could someone suggest an app that does work offline for sure?

Thanks

Looks good but the app hasn't updated since 2010, unless I've got the wrong one...

Maybe this 'Awesome voicerecorder' app is another good alternative which has been updated end of 2016 and get's good reviews in the App Store. I'm not a user though so can't see if it works offline. The app is free although it has various in-app purchase options but don't seen an offline in-app option or something.
