Same. Download went quick 12GB, got to the end, said it failed. Went back to App Store to try again, same result. Almost like if it was pulled...?

What number is the public release supposed to be? I'm at 11.0.1 and any attempt to update is failing.

Same here. My download was interrupted by the computer going to sleep at 3.5 GB or so. You can see what the computer is up to at /var/log/install.log. The key issue seems to be the process does not recognize the download did not finish and it is trying to install with the incomplete file. The message I am getting this from is below. Also, you can't easily delete items from the /Library/Update folder anymore. I don't want to disable security to get this done. I hope Apple will have it fixed in the next week. A standalone download should be available soon, too.

Code:
com.apple.preferences.softwareupdate.remoteservice[453]: Controller: Skipping MajorOSInfo fetch as there is already a cached copy of the product key:<SUOSUMajorProduct: 001-79699>(Title:macOS Big Sur Version:11.0.1, Identifier:com.apple.InstallAssistant.macOSBigSur, IconSize:6941084, Deferred:0, Deferred Until:(null))

I tried again last night a bit after midnight Central Time. They seem to have sorted out the server issues they were having yesterday. My download went well and Big Sur is installing now.

Late 2013 15" MBP - updated today to Big Sur - all went well until the final switch on, i got the new orange background image and login box which i did, after logging in a grey box appeared and that froze - that i believe was the startup walk through - left it a few minutes then did a hard shut down holding the OFF button. On restart i logged in and it gave me the box to tick to open the last closed window - i didn't do that and it opened up as new and that seemed to bypass the scree that froze and has been fine since... about this mac says Big Sur 11.0.1 so i think so far all is well after the initial freeze, haven't tried music yet but the rest seems in order.
