Is anyone getting this error while trying to update to iOS 5.

An error occurred while backing up this iPhone (-43).

It occurs while iTunes is trying to make a back up before the firmware is updated. Then it asks if I want to proceed without the back up and I may lose everything on my phone.

I'm getting the same error. Looks to be common today. I'm waiting until the morning before trying again.

These are likely due to the zillions of folks attempting to update all at once. Its hit and miss at the moment.

Suggestions:

1. Wait till tomorrow;
2. Select your least critical iOS device and update that one first in case there are any "issues";
3. Make sure each device is fully backed up BEFORE you start the update process.

This would effect the backup? I've already downloaded the Ipsw.

I didn't fool with the IPSW so can't say for certain. If you are hung in the middle of the process, shut it all down and start fresh tomorrow.

Ok so I really f'd up and need some major help.

I didnt read the above post that suggested that I try a less critical device and well went for it.

I backed up my phone as normal, and then tried the restore. I got the same error message about the backup. I decided that since I just made a back up that I would go ahead and try the restore. Well it failed while getting the phone ready.

Now I am stuck at the connect to iTunes screen, and iTunes doesn't see the phone. I just restarted the computer (windows) and will see if that at least let's iTunes see the phone. What do I do now?!?

----------

Ok update after the restart iTunes sees the phone in recovery mode and is now trying to restore it. I will let you know!

Still very open to help!!

After changing out the sync cable and restarting iTunes it's now performing the restore. Wish me luck

Ok it restored and is restarting. Let's see if I can get my stuff back on it.

Good luck ;)

In the end, with all of your data backed up, you will be able to restore everything. It may be that sync cable or the Apple servers on the download.

Hope it works out.
