Hello :apple:

I hope readers can see the error shown in the bottom left-hand corner of this screenshot.

https://ibb.co/Vjp06JQ

I don't see the error on my iMac running OS X El Capitan or on my iPad Pro. I only see the error on my iMac running Big Sur 11.3.1

I've cleared out all my caches and history, but the error shown remains.
I've even started in Safe Boot mode and run First Aid on both hard drives in this machine, but without achieving any change.

The emboldened words “Welcome, Support and Privacy Policy” are obscuring the address on the main ‘About. Etresoft, Inc’ page - https://etresoft.com

Has anyone else seen this?

Any ideas regarding the possible cause?

TIA

is this affecting your work with the app? have you tried changing the screen resolution (then back to what you want)? and... is it that important? (just asking!).
Changing the screen resolution makes no difference.
It not important at all. I'm simply curious. 😅
I've looked at the same page using Firefox and everything resolves just as it is intended.

Thanks for your comment.

curiosity is as good an excuse as any to investigate an anomaly. and better to have smaller problems, than bigger ones... 👍

Problem solved! 😅

You can see that there is no incorrect rendering here - with a setting of 14.
Above that number the distortion appears!

There is ALWAYS a reason - finding it is the difficult bit!
My thanks to Steve Carroll who pointed me towards this. 😆

Hello :)

Does anyone reading here know why EtreCheck is no longer approved by Apple? i.e. It's no longer available in the Apple App Store.

Perhaps this is the explanation?

Or do you think that the website is a very clever manipulation of the truth?

Just to clarify the solution to the original 'problem' ...... it was a setting in the Safari browser which distorted the text in the image. i.e. Not a fault of the EtreSoft web page. :apple:

It's the peculiarities of CSS, and website formatting. I did a website for a group a few years ago, and someone with a really old browser was always complaining about the way the site looked on their computer. When someone finally got them to upgrade it, the 'problem' went away. From experience, also, local changes to font size do often cause issues, but unless you changed them on your system the issue is likely with the person who setup the page. They can fix that. With so many nonstandard browsers out there, someone will not see it the way it's intended. The only thing about web standards is that there aren't any. So many pick and choose which ones they support, and even the supported tags can look different from one implementation to another. Check out the source of a big webpage and see all of the gymnastics that are involved in trying to get it to look the way it's intended on the majority of browsers.

Perhaps this is the explanation?

Apple regularly makes changes to its App Store policies. Sometimes, apps that are already in the store may no longer be in compliance with those newly updated policies. Developers can either abandon the app and never update it again, modify the app to comply with new policies, or pull the app from the store. Obviously I'm not going to leave an old version up on the store and abandon it. The Mac App Store version was already significantly impacted by the Mac App Store sandbox and App Store policies. I already had EtreCheckPro available outside of the Mac App Store with significantly more capabilities. Removing EtreCheck from sale was the only viable option.

Don't bother trying to figure out which Apple policy changed that caused all of this. Not all Apple App Store policies are public. Apple demanded that I supply certification of EtreCheck's antivirus capabilities. Apple did not accept my explanation that EtreCheck had no antivirus capabilities as an antivirus product would be impossible due to the aforementioned Mac App Store limitations. And Apple refused to tell me what antivirus certifications they would accept. I admit that was a trick question on my part as no such official certifications exist that I am aware of.

But that's fine. EtreCheck isn't very profitable to begin with and seems to attract internet stalkers like the one you referenced. I asked Google to remove that page but they refused. I could pursue the issue with a lawsuit - against Google. Wish me luck on that one. Instead, I'm working on new software (for Apple's App Store) that I hope will attract a different type of customer as well as being more professionally and financially rewarding.

If you are still curious, as I'm sure you are, you can review the author's (remaining) posts on Apple Support Communities. Here is one of his earlier posts before he got banned.

Translating binary executable file languages?

My efforts to answer his questions only piqued his interest and led him to embark upon on a stalking and harassment campaign against me. Don't you hate it when that happens?

Please don't misinterpret my reply here to suggest that I am interested in communicating. I am not. But perhaps you would have better luck with the author of that Google site that you've already found. At one time he was active on Virus Total too (https://www.virustotal.com/gui/user/chasedaniel).

Thank you for your comprehensive answer. You've mentioned viruses - what do you think of the facility which has been mentioned at the end of this thread? https://x704.net/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=9264
Would you trust the results?

Interestingly, my two posts regarding the use of Trend Micro have now been removed from the thread.

Are you aware of the activities of your co-responder - BDAqua - on the ASC forums?

What is your opinion of Trend Micro HouseCall proficiency when used on an Apple computer?
