As mentioned by alee in https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/932736/ the issue of having to support both FaceTime portrait and landscape mode is complicated (centering of subject and loss of eye contact) due to the iPad's larger screen size-to-viewing distance ratio.

In my humble opinion, this is one of the reasons why an integrated camera (or cameras) was left out. However... an external camera could be used to mitigate any problems.

I don't mind if we have to connect it to the Dock connector port or to usb through the iPad Camera Connection Kit, or if it's sold as a separate dock altogether.

Please Steve, make it so!

They're saving it for iPad 2 unfortunately.. I don't have any source but it only makes perfect sense in terms of business to save features for the next model so it will be even more popular (imagine how many iPad owners will buy the next one just for the camera).

I don't imagine I will buy one just because it has a camera. It won't necessarily have a camera. I guess if it had flash, you'd imagine how many iPad owners would buy one...not this iPad owner.

I don't see it coming to iPad. The iPad is NOT a communication device, it's a consumption device.

I think we may see some surprises later this year. Remember that Steve said that Facetime is going to be on 10s of millions of devices by the end of the year? They ain't sellin' 10s of millions of Iphone 4s by the end of the year. It will be interesting to find out what he meant.

Did not watch the video... but 10's of millions would lead me to think of an update to notebooks and maybe up dates to the iPod line up... not to the iPad... other than a separate camera...

iPod Touch for sure. FaceTime is WiFi only so it fits. iPad is just too big to hold up for FaceTime.

I think FaceTime on the iPad would be pretty cool, almost like speaking face to face. There are various ways you could hold or lean it. Not that It's very likely that I would use it.
