I’m in the dilemma of whether I should get a new 27” iMac for my graphic designer needs or should I just get an equivalent Mac book pro along with a 27” display?
And further more, is this a good period for such a move?

Really depends what you have at the moment and how important having a mobile solution is to you. The new 27" 5K displays are amazing, particularly the nano texture option. You would have to pay a lot to find an equivalent external display. The new iMacs are more powerful than the MBP. However an iMac does not have the portability that the MBP has.

What 3rd party display matches the specs of the iMac? Do u have in mind any that come close?

iMac is a total package. I'd go with that, its hard to beat. Simplify - it just works 👍

Without the nano texture you are looking at something like the LG ultra fine 5k display ( which uses the same panel as the iMac) which is around £1200, with the nano texture you are looking something like the Apple Pro display which is significantly more.
