http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/apple/an-insiders-iphone-hands+on--new-details-266469.php

A proven inside source of mine points me toward his posting on a forum describing his hands-on with the iPhone. Here's are his non-fanboy impressions along with some new details:

•"It does have email and it is already set up for AOL/GMAIL/HOTMAIL etc.. and you can use your own POP email address."
•"Not worth the $500-$600 IMHO maybe half that."

•"I must say it has very fast response to input and very good resolution on the LCD it is very crisp and vivid."
•"...it has a place to put your SIM. It looks to not have an easily replaceable battery (like the IPODS no battery door)." [This runs contrary to other rumors.]
•"The phone has a super top secret feature that I can't even be told what is (anyone have a clue?)."
•"Web browsing is pretty fast as well."
•" The phone has to be carried around in a pouch there is no other way around it. " [A matter of opinion...]
•"One thing that struck me was that there are constant firmware updates. I'm talking nearly daily. I hate to see that the firmware is being tweaked so much 3 weeks before its release." [I'm sure there'll be Boom at launch...]

They had a guy personally fly out an iPhone to the bigwig AT&T guy so he could show it for a few minutes and then flew it back when at the same time several bozos on the internet have full access to them and can shoot their lying mouths off on message boards about it..... riiiiiiiiiight....

Carry around in a pouch? No way... the scratches wont show up when the LCD is on.. everything scratches, just deal with it :p

I pre-ordered an Invisible Shield for the iPhone. I'm not sure if the touch screen will work with it though. Their customer support said I could get a refund if it turns out not to work. The IS is an amazing product I've had it on my iPod video since day one - not a blemish on it. Same for my current cell phone.

I also pre-ordered an invisible shield, thanks for the info about the refund. I contacted Apple and asked about compatibility, and they had this to say:

"Occasionally, third party companies introduce accessories based on
preliminary information about Apple products which have not yet been
released.

Customers should not make a purchasing decision until the product is
formally released and compatibility has been tested."

I have had great luck with shieldzone products, my 5G iPod is still perfect, I really hope they did their homework on preparing the shields for the iPhone!

Another thumbs up for the Invisible Shield. I've had one on my iPod since the day I got it, and while the shield itself has taken quite a beating, I'm sure that underneath my iPod is as good as new!

You do know that the IS is guaranteed for life right? All you have to do is email their support - they send you a new one with a pre-paid envelope to send your old one back to them. Excellent customer service.

I've heard good things about Invisible Shields, but I just can't imagine that it wouldn't get gunky and peel off at the edges. Perhaps I'm being too skeptical - I haven't seen one in person (I've only seen the cheap static cling protectors). I looked on the manufacturer's website but I couldn't find any close-up shots. Do you have a macro shot of an invisible shield on an iPod?

At first glance, this thread had the potential to trigger all kinds of interesting discussion and possibly reveal new info.

Now it has just turned into an Invisible Shield thread. Oh well.

Hey - any thread based on a Gizmodo "proven inside source" is suspect in the first place. Back on topic then... gee, the "proven inside source" sure seems to know very little about a device they have had their "hands on." If you had your hands on it don't you think you would try to discover the "secret feature?"

Nothing new here, move along.
