An iPad 2 can do Airplay Mirroring, But my i7 Macbook Pro cant?

That is very upsetting that an iPad 2 can do airplay mirroring without a problem, But my Macbook Pro i7 2.66Ghz 8GB RAM with a Nvida GT 330M can't??

Apple, I am very sure you can make it happen. Oh but thats right, you want every single little penny from your loyal customers. Well theres no way im upgrading my system, its freaking only 2 years old!! what the hell!!

Paid 2,600 for my macbook pro.. and two years later its apple sees it as "out of date".. infreakincredible

Good thing my 5 year old PC can run Windows 7 without a problem. :)

The iPad 2 has a hardware encoder that helps with the AirPlay mirroring. The Macbook lacks that. The iPad 2 has a screen size much smaller then the Macbook. Thus is has to process and move a much smaller amount of pixels to the Apple TV.
 
doesnt it also have something to do with the newer generation of intel chips supporting some type of DRM? In which case I bet movie studios would only agree to allow it if there was DRM

A five year old computer that can run a three year old operating system. A difference of 2 years is much less than the average Mac OS X lifespan on an Apple computer. My five year old Mac can run a 1 day old operating system and my other 12 year old one can run a five year old one. Welcome to the real world.

No one is telling you to upgrade. If you want mirroring on your machine buy AirParrot. There's no conspiracy here, you need a more recent GPU to do it well.

Rightttttttt, more decent GPU? I Should stick my iPad 2 or iPhone 4S GPU in there to make it more decent right? My nvida GT 330m with 512ram is soooo out of date huh

haha whoops, my anger just went over my head.. I read decent instead of recent! yea im guessing is that damn drm issue.. hopefully there will be a hack for it, cuz theres no way im upgrading a 2 year old system that after taxes cost me 2,700
 
The iPhone 4S and iPad 2/3 have a hardware h264 encoder, as does any Mac that uses Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge. On the Mac this is called "QuickSync".

It's not a conspiracy or laziness, it doesn't mean that your 2009 Mac Pro is "slower" than a 2011 Air - it's simple a hardware feature that's missing on older Macs.

I think AirParrot is going to work out great for you buddy, as long as either your AppleTV or your Macbook is wired and the other is near the WiFi Access Point u wont feel like you are missing out on native AirPlay at all. I used it on my Macbook Air and Pro we have at home until today (now that its enabled natively) and it worked great.
