I have a refurb 2020 2nd Gen 11” Pro. Right now the trade-in value is $330. I also have a gift card for $190. If I do the trade-in with the gift card, the total is $350 (Including tax).

First of all, I don’t need the gift card for anything else for at least a couple years.

Second, I‘d like to get next year’s Pro, but I assume my trade-in value will plummet by then. Also, next year’s Pro might be more expensive.

Finally, I absolutely do not need the one that was just announced. I’m just thinking about total cost now vs next year.

Thoughts?

I would grab m1 for 200 bucks less somewhere else. Apple is rarely a place to shop directly even if you have gift cards.

I hear you. I just bought my mom a 9th Gen for $269 on Amazon because the new “base” model is so ridiculously priced.

But I figure I need to use the gift card sooner than later. As Apple keeps raising prices on everything, the gift card will keep losing value.

Also, I’m not sure where to get an M1. It’s only $50 off at Amazon right now, and they don’t have any space gray models in stock.

I'm thinking of trading in my 2020 IPP 11-inch for the new iPad 10th Gen. A "downgrade" in some ways, but it addresses two of my main wishlist items -- FaceTime camera on the horizontal/landscape edge and a keyboard case with function keys. The camera change is a big deal for me, as I use my iPads for Zoom, etc., a lot. Yes, I know I'd be losing some things in the switch -- but I'm not a huge pencil user so that doesn't bother me. I'm not sure upgrading from the 2020 11-inch to the 2022 one is really worth it, in terms of a better/changed user experience.

I‘m leaning toward not getting the M2. I was comparing the 2020, 2021 and 2022 models on Apple’s website and they are all quite literally the same iPad other than the chip and a couple other very minor things.

Guess I’ll wait for the 2023 model and see if it’s worth the upgrade.

Thanks for the replies.

Why not resell your iPad yourself for more money?

I‘ve bought a couple things from Swappa (love Swappa) before, but when I tried to sell something there about a year ago, PayPal said they needed a copy of my drivers license. I wasn’t too keen on that. And I’ll never deal with eBay again. So other than Swappa, I’d be at a loss as to where to sell it with confidence.

I just keep it there in a limbo. Once in a while i decide to buy unlocked iphone for a full price and use gift cards at apple because there were no deals around. You could grab 11 inch m1 from bestbuy, walmart were having a sale for 600 i believe - not now but maybe a week ago. Anyway i am looking forward to buy one for around 500-550 with this new models coming out.
Yes you lose money by waiting, but you also lose money by chasing the latest directly from Apple.
I have 16 dollars worth of subscriptions with apple(icloud and music), so my gift cards are also spent there. From accounting perspective it doesn’t matter in the grand scheme if i buy smth big and tangible for gift cards or just use them for my monthly subscriptions - in the end it still has to be paid from my wallet one way or another, but the total net amounts would be the same.

You might try MacMeAnOffer.com or CashForYourMac.com, both reputable trade-in sites used my MR members. I've had excellent experiences with CFYM and haven't tried MMAO.

You think you're getting a good deal or good savings with the trade in and gift card but the fact is you're actually spending money to buy a new tablet that can already do what your current tablet can do.

The 2020 iPad Pro is still a fantastic iPad Pro.
