An SSD, HDD, Superdrive Thread

I'm going to get a 2009 27' i5 imac, and might consider upgrading to a SSD sometime down the road. Now, a few questions.

Could I just plug it in to the iMac via SATA and be good to go? If not, could I have it replace the superdrive, and then wire that such that it worked externally, via USB?

Also - would it be possible to upgrade the graphics card later? I highly doubt it, but someone mentioned something about it, and now I've got a fleeting suspicion.

Yup the new mid 2010 iMacs have 3 Sata connection on the logic board! So you can connect 3 sata devices inside! From Apple you can order HDD SSD and Superdrive! However if you are brave you can open up your imac and add a SSD yourself!

You could also replace the superdrive with an SSD if you dont wanna do fishing in your imac to find the extra sata socket! And yes you could put your super drive in an enclosure and use it via USB!

I dont believe the gfx are upgradeable!

In my research I found that only the mid 2010 27" iMac have 3 sata ports and the 2009's only have 2 sata ports. So, you will have to give up the superdrive or HDD to install an SSD.

OWC sells an external enclosure to convert the "Super" Drive to external FW800 or USB.
