Hello!

A few minutes ago I noticed this on my side bar:

It wasn't there before and I'm sure I definitely didn't activate anything.

When I right click on it I just see "Open, Get Info, Open Sidebar Preferences".

"Get info" doesn't have anything more than this:

I certainly cannot turn off this "user" unless I pull the internet cable... IT just appears again when I connect.

I'm really panicking right now, because there's absolutely nobody else who can help me with this around me.

If this is any help; another family member is using the same connection in another room via cable as well but for over 2 years something like this never happened and we never had a problem, so I doubt this would appear now.

Can somebody please help me? What is this? How can I get rid of this? I have no info, please?

The last ten digits of that is a MAC address. Go to all your machines to check their MAC addresses and rule them out one at a time.

Thank you for the fast reply!

Um; please forgive my ignorance as I'm not too good with these stuff; this Mac is the only one currently at home. The other one I mentioned was a PC. Also, how do I check the addresses? (I can understand your faceplam, sorry). I'd really appreciate if you can help.

MAC is not Mac. MAC is the hardware address that every network connection has. Use Google to find out how to check your other computers' MAC addresses.

Ok, I found it. Not this machine, that's ruled out...

Though I also found a person having a somewhat similar trouble and that person was replied like this:

Seeing a name/computer in the Finder sidebar's 'SHARED' section is not an indication of a hacker. It is where computers that are broadcasting (shared services, Bonjour etc...) will appear. Since Cable internet is a shared network (unlike the point to point nature of DSL), I would expect it possible that other (unknown) computers/users might appear in that section.

It would be a relief if that was the case but I don't know if this is information is correct or not either. And as I said, I've been sharing this internet via the other PC for over 2 years, this never happened before.

If this is another network that I'm just picking up; I don't understand why this is happening now while it never happened before. My firewall is on, I'm not allowing any outer access, I'm not searching for them, yet that "user" is still there... I'm really lost and a bit scared...

Hello again,

I'm not seeing that shared network anymore; though I haven't done anything, it just disappeared... therefore, I have no idea what it was, how it's gone and what should I do to prevent it from appearing again =_= But still, for now it seems to be gone.

It's not another user, its another computer on your network that has the computer name of "user-1135...."

You say you've been sharing the internet with your PC? On your PC's keyboard, press Windows + R together and then type in CMD and press enter.

when "Command Prompt" appears, type hostname and press enter.

if it comes up with "user-1135...." then its that computer.
