Where would you buy your extra RAM and why would you choose
any of the following:

*Data Memory Systems,
*Crucial RAM
*OWC

These are "the finalists" I found doing a search on mac rumors.

They have more or less the same price (around $140 usd). However, I am very concerned about honesty, reliability, and product quality. If you think no third party can offer that, then I wouldn´t buy the extra RAM. If you know another RAM provider you may want to recommend, I would appreciate it.

For honesty and good customer service I prefer Data Memory Systems, hands down. Try this test: Call them on the phone, 800-662-7466 and put a stopwatch on how long it takes to get someone who is a real Mac expert on the phone and answering your questions.

Now try that with any other RAM vendor.

I have dealt with DMS for over 5 years. They are honest, fair, and they know and use Macs.

Is this a tricky way to re-post a beaten to death thread about ram? Anyway I just bought from Datamem and did their free shipping on Saturday. It's Wednesday night here, I will post back with good or bad news. According to CanadaRAM a well respected(from what i hear dude) DataMem is the only way to go.

Honestly, I don't think it matters much. As well as it is a reasonably reputable company, they pretty much all guarantee their RAM to work and will replace or refund it if it doesn't.

Fer Criminey Sake: We've been over this ground before. The Kingston that Outpost (and NewEgg, and Tiger) sells is the Kingston ValueRAM and it is neither tested nor guaranteed compatible with Macs. Outpost does not provide any compatibility guarantee.

If you are a Mac-adept and want to play RAM Roulette to save $10, sure. But make sure you have time on your hands and can cover the return shipping costs, (and worst case, restocking costs) if it doesn't work.

Danski: Apple doesn't approve any RAM or any RAM suppliers, it's down to the seller doing their homework and guaranteeing compatibility for you. PM me for more info.

I'd probably stick to Crucial as has been said in this thread, or the original Samsung RAM. If I were going to buy RAM (which I am), I'd order it from CanadaRAM.com . I'm telling you, there's no place or webstore based in Toronto with any decent RAM for Macs. Even the Mac-centric stores around here sell brands I've never heard of or are over-priced.

I've been very happy with OWC (eshop.macsales.com). They know Macs. My friend recently shopped for RAM for an old G3 and they had a note about a very obscure memory controller issue, and which brands of RAM were affected.

I've also been happy with transintl.com in the past, but haven't used them lately.

Both have comparably low pricing in my experience, although OWC has more selection. Transintl.com is a RAM maker themselves.

Always make sure you have a lifetime warranty. But with generic-brand RAM, in my experience (the free RAM upgrade MacConnection gave me with my PowerBook), actually getting them to honor that warranty can take some effort.
