Hi Guys,

It's got to the time where I fancy a change. I've had an iPhone since 2009 (3GS and now 4S) and I'm considering coming over to Android. I am thinking of either a Nexus 4 (bought outright, with an unlimited data sim-only contract), or a HTC One.

One of the things I do quite often is stream music from my iPhone to my Apple TV via AirPlay. I've just signed up to Spotify Premium so I no longer have to worry about having my music on my phone (apart from synced playlists), but is there a way, using the Spotify app for Android, of being able to stream to the Apple TV? I hear lots of "well it might work" but I'd rather know for definite.

Unfortunately there is no way to airplay to an appletv using an android device. It is literally the only reason I still have an ipad.

You could get a micracast device and mirror your android screen to your TV.

Not true, though unlike the iPhone, it's app specific. If you pay for the upgraded AirTwist functionality in DoubleTwist, you can Airplay any media play playable in that app, which basically limits you to music and video stored on your device and podcasts.

I have tried that before. I wouldn't really call it airplay. I think of airplay as streaming hbo go and similar apps to your ATV. There is no way to do that with an android phone to apple TV.

Things may have changed since I last checked. I noticed the link someone else posted mentioned iTunes remote allowing ATV control. Same with that, unless it changed very recently it uses to only control iTunes.

Thanks Guys.

It's a bit of a shame that, although I suppose I could always keep my current 4S for audio/video streaming purposes.

I'm fed up of deliberately crippled iPhone tariffs (500Mb is an absolute pittance considering we're streaming everything now). Anything above that becomes ludicrously priced!
