I just installed Jelly Bean 4.2 on my Galaxy Nexus and...WOW...

Along with all the great new features this is ridiculously smooth. 4.1 was a good start with "Project Butter", 4.1.2 improved on this but 4.2 is amazing with the responsiveness of the UI. It's just completely a none-issue now.
