Android Pay and New Google Wallet app......

Got a notification today for installing. Added some cards but didn't use it yet. I have my Google Wallet card as my default card. So far, only my Discover card will get rewards through Android Pay. The website says rewards for my Citi card coming soon.







The new Wallet is separate. Which I like, cause I basically only use it to add funds and spend online or from my Google Wallet debit card. But for some reason, people are complaining in the Play Store about it being separate from Android Pay.

I have a discover and citi card on my android pay. I have used it four times since the day it rolled out. It works great, just as smooth as Apple Pay.

Actually, it has worked for me every time, which I can't say for Apple pay. Apple pay failed a few times for me, once in the Apple store...which was ironic.

That's good to here. I never used Apple Pay, so I can't comment on that.

There are also people complaining that the new app won't work on rooted devices, or those running developer builds of the OS. I can understand both restrictions but it will also prevent a lot of people from using the service.

I've read rootcloak is a workaround for root users. Android pay hasnt rolled out to me yet, havent tested

Some people have been able to unroot using Superuser, add their cards, then root back when everything working.

I'm wondering how Google Wallet will function on iOS. I've used it to store my loyalty/rewards cards until now. What happens now that that functionality has moved to Android Pay on the Android platform?

Google Wallet was only able to store cards and use them to fund your Wallet accont. Then you make the actual purchase from you Wallet account or Wallet debit card(if you have one).

Android Pay makes tranactions directly from your cards.

I think the split makes sense, to keep users from mistakenly using one or the other.

When I did the intial setup of Android Pay, it detected the cards on my Google Wallet and asked if I want to bring them over. I did have to provide the CVV number for sercurity purposes.

I agree. When I first heard of the split I was like WTF? Then I read more about it, it makes SOME sense - use one app for loyalty cards and sending money from person to person, use another app for paying businesses. Not sure why we'd want the loyalty cards in a different place than our purchasing ability though, makes it a little cumbersome to have to switch apps to make the payment. I'm also not sure why they couldn't just create a new "Android Pay" app instead of rebranding the existing app and building a new Wallet app to carry over the existing functionality, they were building a new app anyway...

I agree, the way they rolled the updates out was confusing. Just like you said, the old Wallet turned into Android Pay(icon changes and all), and you must install the New Wallet.

Now if you look for Andorid Pay in the play store , you won't find it. Instead you will see Google Wallet and Google Wallet(new). If you download Google Wallet(new), it might automatically update the old Google Wallet on your phone to Android Pay.

For many, this hasn't happened yet. So they are stuck with the old and new Google Wallet until Google rolls the update to them.
