I see a trend happening with Android phones no longer supporting hard wired to TV. I understand Chromecast is the preferred method but for those without WiFi it's slim pickings. The Pixel, Moto G and Z series, 3T, LG 20 and many others all don't have support. $649 and up phones and no hard wired support for TV, they must be kidding. As much as I dislike Apple at least they still have HDMI support.

Samsung still does and in fact, the S8 will support a Microsoft-esque Continuum mode with your PC via HDMI connection to your monitor.

But for connection to TV, the hardwire days are over. As mentioned above with 802.11ad and BT 5.0, high latency wireless is no longer an issue.

Who needs wired when upcoming SoCs have 802.11ad WiGig?

Thing is mate, not all of us live in 1st World countries or have clients/friends/family who have the lastest tech all the time.

This is what I like about Samsung. They don't just think about people living in the Western countries.

For those preferring wired output to external display the upcoming Snapdragon 835 will have built-in DisplayPort output without requiring a bulky expensive active adapter.

it probably has more to do with royalties and manufacturing costs than anything else.
