I'm an iPhone and iPad user. I'm looking to buy an Android device or devices as additional device/s primarily for the multiple user functionality. Use cases will be to keep as a spare device for myself (for temp use in case of loss or damage to my iPhone or iPad), use as a coffee table device for visitors to use (in particular for controlling Sonos speaker system) and perhaps occasionally give to visitors to use out of my home. All these use cases would be occasional rather than regular/routine (most of the time the device would probably be unused). Being frugal, I'm wondering if I can buy a single device to cover all use cases. I think this will depend on capability of Android user profiles which I don't fully understand.
I've used Android as a primary device in the past but its probably been about 4 years since I last used Android so am a bit out of touch. I see there is some information on Android profiles at the link below (for Nexus):
https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/2865483?hl=en&ref_topic=6126546
But I have some questions I hope others can help with. Note, in distinguishing between profile types I'm solely going by the nomenclature used in the link above and have no direct experience with this myself. I'm a bit confused by the described difference between 'account' and 'user' profiles.
My questions:
1. Is the link above (describing 4 profile types) only relevant to Nexus devices or do all Android devices have these 4 profile types (user, guest, account, restricted)?
2. Do 'user' profiles (not guest, not account, not restricted) have to sign in via a Google account or can they be used without assigning a Google account?
3. Are 'user' profiles able to install apps without signing into a Google account?
4. Do 'user' profiles have access to apps installed by the main user of the device? (the 'account' profile?)
5. Do guest profiles only have access to the factory-installed apps or do they also have access to apps that the main user/account has installed?
6. The link above says 'restricted' profiles are only available on tablets. What exaclty defines a phone. Would 8" devices which have phone functionality be classed as tablets or phones? For example, Teclast P80X - http://www.teclast.com/en/zt/P80X/
Thanks
