Hi all

Considering switching from my Pixel c tablet to an iPad Pro 12.9. Now I watch a lot of Netflix, no issue.

I also watch a lot of movies x264/5 AC3, which is my main concern. I do not want to trascode codecs.

Is it simply drag n' drop with the right app? Last apple device was a 3gs...

Regards

x264, x265, ac3 is no problem if formatted in a compatible container. E.g. a lot of pirates use mkv, but the best container for apple devices is the more industry standard mp4.

There isnt a drag and drop file system so to speak...

if your not using a app to stream/transcode like plex or emby, VLC is fine.

I wouldn't call it real drag and drop but you have 2 options.

the method prior to the files app was VLC has a webserver.

so while that server is enabled on and the ipad & its on the same network as the PC
i go to its IP address/Name (in my case ipad.local) in a web browser and i can drag and drop files to it via a web interface.

alternatively, if you have a mac you can airdrop it to the ipad, it then opens in the files app and you can select the VLC folder.

if you have the option i find the airdrop transfer speed faster than VLCs webserver

Absolutely no idea about containers, mkv or mp4. Use plex in the house and drag drop when on business.

Sorry to sound completely ignorant.

then in house use plex as per normal, then for on business use VLC, its able to do what you need

VLC is good. Infuse is good. I’m a 100% full time android user. My last tablet was the google nexus 9. I wanted a larger screen and the ability to do music on a tablet (was tired of carrying a laptop) so i went with the first gen iPad Pro 12.9 on launch day. I’m not on generation 3 of the iPad 12.9. Ive had no issues with playing my video files and as mentioned I use infuse and VLC (but mostly use INFUSE).
