Hi,

I am going round in CIRCLES trying to decide which smartwatch to get for my boyfriend this Xmas.

He uses an iPhone but likes the round watches like Huawei or Fossil.

I have read 100s of reviews and articles and cannot find a definite answer for iPhone users:

Can you answer calls on the Android watches and
Can you reply to WhatsApp messages (not just using preset replies)? <---most important

Some say yes, some say no! I would be getting the LTE version.

Does anyone use these watches with an iPhone who can give me a definitive answer please?

Last time I used an Android Wear 2 paired with the iPhone ........

Answering calls are no problem.
Notifications are no problem.
Can't reply to iMessages/texts from watch, but you will get notifications.
Apple Health does not sync with Android Wear.
Can't remember how it got along with Whatsapp.

My neighbor had serious issues trying to sync his phone number with his LTE Android Wear watch with AT&T, but had no issues when using an Android phone. I personally never had a LTE version Android Wear watch.

My personal advice is not to get an iPhone user an Android Wear or Samsung Gear watch. My experience trying both on iOS is just a janky experience at best. And pairing go in and out at random times.

My husband would agree with @LIVEFRMNYC in that the functionality is limited with Samsung watches. He said it would lose connection to the phone too easily and the app could close. He doesn’t know about Android watches. My husband doesn’t recommend pairing any Samsung Watch with an iPhone. He’s gotten an LTE Apple Watch that he loves. However he does miss a round watch and all the faces he could buy from the Samsung store.
