I am looking for an animation program that is cheap and could be used by kids (i.e. easy to learn by a 8 year old). Anyone know of anything? Thanks :)

well this is pretty cheap considering its free and works on pretty much any system. but i don't know about how easy it is. i haven't worked with it much but from just playing around it looks like you might have a learning curve. i think you can get tutorials though and you could learn it and then teach your kids. it could be like a bonding thing maybe.

If only there was animation in Tux Paint.

I'm thinking of making my own program because I don't see anything thats made for simple animation :)

Unfortunately the tutorials are aweful and the program, while wonderfully powerful, is also increadibly hard to learn to use. VERY steep learning curve. My son has been trying to learn it for years. He is now 14. He is very bright and does excellent animation in ToonBoom. He would like to transition to Blender. The problem is the tutorials and the program don't match up in a huge number of ways and the interface is awkward.

More Choices

You might check www.3dlinks.com which has a brief review and many resources for those interested in animation. There is also information about blender and forums which can be very helpful.

Although not particularly appealing with the watermarks but have you checked out Maya 7.0 PLE (Personal Learning Edition)?
