Does anyone know about any good animation applications I could get and use on OX 9.2 or 10?
I'm looking for something with which I can make simple, basic animation, like the non-computer old style animation, not animation for putting together web-sites or anything like that; more arty stuff.
Any recommendations would be very much appreciated, I don't know where to start.

If I understand you correctly, you are looking to cell animation as opposed to 3d. If that is the case, you can do it in Photoshop / ImageReady. Use photoshop to create all your layers and to position any moving parts per frame, then using ImageReady you can turn them into a gif sequence. If quality is of a big concern, find an outside app to stitch together a tiff sequence instead (FCP might do this, I haven't tired)

If its 3d you're after, the standard for Mac has to be Maya. You can get a 'personal learning edition' directly from their site for free, unfortunately it will produce watermarked final output, but should be useful in findning out if that is what you want. Cinema 4D is also an option, but less common over all.

thanks for those ideas.
I tried free maya download which hasn't worked yet...will try again. It probably IS cell animation I'm interested in, but am looking forward to seeing 3D stuff too.
In terms of budget, i haven't a clue, not too much yet though, at this stage i'm just trying to see what my options are.

i've just had a look at ToonBoom, and think i can refine my criteria.
I'd like to be able to manipulate basic geometrical shapes and things, as if they are in real space. Different colours and levels of transparency would be good and fading in and out. And sound. And em.... some effects and stuff to play around with. But basic, no need for sophisticated lip synching or anything like that.
THANKS!
I'm getting there...
