Now in macOS Big Sur, if service is "recommended" the battery icon will show nothing but a ⚠ warning symbol, regardless of state of charge or whether it's charging or full.

Although the battery has over 1111 cycles and is at 69% capacity, it's still perfectly adequate for our needs and I will not be replacing it until it actually becomes a problem.

So it is a bit annoying to have to see that ⚠ all the time for a "recommended" service of a normally functioning battery that's just been well used. It was nice when they changed the "Replace Soon", "Replace Now", and "Service Required" statuses with just one "Service Recommended" status (I don't know when but I just discovered that in Catalina). But now they're making the icon nag you instead and I don't think that's right for a "recommendation".

If you don't want to suffer minor annoyances, then don't run a beta OS. If you want something that's perfectly functional and stable, then run Mojave or High Sierra. Plain and simple.

You cannot have the bleeding edge and perfect function together. It just doesn't work that way. Period.

That's awfully harsh and uncalled for. Is it not normal to test out a beta OS and talk about the changes? 🤦‍♂️

I expected this to stay the same for the release but we'll see.

Just enable percentages and you'll at least have that info. And it's a beta so still malleable to change; Write them a suggestion with Feedback Assistant to make the warning dismissible
I would if I could but I deleted my Apple ID 😬
You people are probably going to attack me for that so I've unsubscribed from this thread.

Mate, I wouldn't attack you over anything :)
When I pointed out it was a beta it wasn't like the other person you quoted, to shoot down your complaint. In fact it was sort of the opposite; To encourage mentioning complaints so they can be changed before release, when it's harder to get suggestions through.

I'll report it to Apple for you. No prob :). - Curious why you'd get rid of your Apple ID though

How do I enable battery percentages?, it's not in the drop down menu any more and could not find it in settings.

My point is that it's pointless telling anyone here about minor gripes, as we're not Apple. Tell Apple how to improve their beta OS. And if pointing out truthful logic is "uncalled for", then you must live in an alternate universe from me.

Just do a PRAM reset and the service notification will go away...

It won't, PRAM reset will not increase the current capacity to 80% or more if the battery is actually worn to that point. PRAM has nothing to do with the power management of the Mac, that is done by the SMC.

Weirdly, I have the Service Recommended message as well, but my battery (and computer) are basically brand new; my cycle count is only 18 🙃 must be a Big Sur bug, only started showing up after I updated to beta 3

Same problem here. Brand new 13-inch MacBook Pro (2020), just installed Big Sur beta 3. Battery has 2 cycles on it and says Service recommended.

**EDIT**

Resetting PRAM fixed it. Attempting to reset SMC did absolutely nothing.

Really curious, because officially you'd need an Apple ID that's in the dev program in order to get Big Sur at this point...

At this point public betas are out, but when the post was made, there was actually two official possibilities, not just the dev program

Either a developer program account or the AppleSeed invite only testing program

Well, https://beta.apple.com/sp/de/betaprogram/guide?locale=en says it's Coming soon (I know, because I'm waiting myself :D).
Still, there's next to no reason to actually delete an Apple ID.

Hm. I thought I saw an article on MacRumors that said it was out. Maybe that was just the iOS one. Well thanks for correcting me.
For the record I was skeptical about Big Sur when I watched the keynote, but I'm super happy with it now. Surprisingly I've actually stayed don it as my main OS, where I usually boot in and out of the beta Ones for testing but stay dominantly on a stable release. There are some issues but they're all easily worked around
