Enjoying my 2021 IPP, but noticed an annoying Apple Mail application behavior.

I have two accounts, one for work and one non-work. To switch between the accounts I click the rectangle icon in the upper left and select the account. On my old IPP 10.5 when I select the account it automatically switches back to the inbox view of the account selected. It seems on the 12.9 it brings up the correct inbox but the mailbox selection slide out remains, so I have to click on the rectangle again to hide it. It seems like a weird bug, doesn’t happen on my 10.5 or my wife’s Air 3.

If I do this is split screen, the problem goes away. When I select the mailbox I would expect it to automatically hide the slide out. Perhaps the bigger screen allows the app to show more?

It’s by design and you should expect it in most first party app.
One of the big novelty of iPadOS14 shown at WWDC2020 is the sidebar everywhere.

That's not a bug.
