I set up MobileMe to host my personal domain, switcheroo.org. All is well, my DNS records finally updated, BUT there is one problem with MobileMe that annoys the piss out of me.

The URL for my website is all tweaked out. Here it is, you can see why I don't like it:

I was under the impression that I'd be able to host directly on my domain name and not still have to dig through three folders to get to my site. Is there any way I can change this? I tried moving the folders, but it wouldn't let me.

You are using your Public folder on MobileMe or are you using iWeb to produce it?

What's the URL you put for your actual domain to link to?

I'm using iWeb, although I have since given up and gone back to my actual web host.

But for the record and for future reference, I built and published it with iWeb.

Put your "index.html" page (and any other content) in the iDisk > Web > Sites folder and configure your host CNAME "switcheroo.org" to point to web.me.com. You may also need to configure the CNAME "www" to point to web.me.com.

access problem

When I visit my site, http://www.sovereign-state.net I receive a limited access notice prompting viewers that they need to enter my, presumably, user password in order to view the site. Im using godaddy to host the domain, I have the www alias set to web.me.com and I have the forward set to the index page of the site. Any guesses?
I am using Iweb to publish, its publishing to the sites folder though strangely not on the idisk home...when i log into MME idisk there is a separate tab called sites>iweb, Do I need to migrate things to the idisk sites folder?
I do have another site, http://www.bradjohns.net with the same structure that works fine. Its index and files are located in the sites>iweb folder.

Its not mobile me's fault. One of two things is happening here. Either you have the file switcheroo.html hidden under two folders which cause this url. If you move the file to the top without and folders over it your url will just be http://www.switcheroo.org/Switcheroo.html. Now, if switcheroo.html is your index page just rename it to index.html and your url will be http://www.switcheroo.org

You might also consider applying a mask. Usually you can do this with your domain host. This will "mask" all of the tiered folders for simply the domain name. This is a function, atleast at godaddy, which is related to domain forwarding.

I see that your main page is a blog. Remember that iWeb blog templates always add an additional folder to the URL structure. I recommend that you set either About Me or Résumé as your main page (they usually have simpler URL like http://www.yourdomain.com/name1/name2.html).

That's really ridiculous. Why would I want my main page to go to that when my main content is my blog? There has to be a way to shorten the URL so it's just http://www.yourdomain.com/blog

There is. But the trick requires some rearrangement within your iDisk, such as moving, switching and deleting certain folders. Willing to do that each time you publish your iWeb site?

Not really... but there has to be an easier way.

Isn't there anyway to make it just so it's just one of them, rather than three? Because right now it has three. I think that's kinda useless.
