My new macbook makes a intermittent hissing noise. It's really hard to describe, but it seems to be coming from near the screen, and sounds a bit like a cricket????!!!

Any ideas? It started a couple of days ago.

...hisssss...
Mine does that too, I think it's either clearing static or from the speakers or both. It normally happens as I wake it from sleep, I've taken to opening a can of Strongbow each time I use the MacBook to drown the noise, so I don't have to think about it or worry.

My MacBook does this, but it only lasts for about 1.5seconds and is always after waking it from sleep. I'm certain the sound comes from the speakers.

And how often do you have to wake your MB up?:)

Hmmm we'll see if it disappears. Might have to adapt a Strongbow-opening technique too..:)

I agree, it comes from the speakers, seems to be when the soundcard powers up or something along those lines. At least thats what I always assumed. Either way it hasn't bothered me.

I have the same problem with my Core Duo MacBook Pro. I thought I was crazy at first.

It sounds like a constant high pitched chirp. Between this and the fan problems that I'm having........my baby might be going to the Apple store for repair.

I just have to wait until finals are over next week.
