I noticed an annoying bug that is only affecting Safari browser. I am using last iPADOs version, in the IPP 10.5.

This is how it happens: randomly the browser gets unresponsive and doesn't allow you to write anything in form fields. The best site to test this is Google, try to create a new account there and write in the password (field).

At first I thought this could be a problem with this site. Then I cleaned cookies/temp files from Safari and tried to enter DuckDuckGo's settings. Since I saved specific settings in a password I defined here, I was trying to write said password in this field:

Also, you can't type anything there. The problem with this bug is that 90, 95% of the time isn't happening. You go there and you are able to write anything. You may even go to Google now, just to check my complaint, and don't see anything wrong.

That doesn't mean isn't there. It's there, but only in random moments. This is what is really annoying about this.

Also, from my experience, Google's URL (see above) where we create a new account is the best one to test this bug. 50% of the time (perhaps more) I can't write anything anywhere there.

The funny thing is that I also have Firefox's browser (for iOS) installed. And in it this NEVER HAPPENS. Never happened, not even once.

So, what is really causing this? Could it be the Adblock I have enabled? Or is this a bug introduced in recent versions (don't know if since iOS 14)?

I will not be able to file a complaint with Apple's bug report system only based on what I said in this thread, will I? Are they ever going to fix this?

It wasn't happening before, that's for sure. I know this because I've been using Safari for iOS to create Google accounts for a long time. And this unresponsive keyboard that does nothing if I try to select the form field and type there only started to happen recently.

Safari is buggy on the ipad. Every time the history and data is cleared, i launch safari and that app crashes when i type or go to any website. There are some other kweerks i notice but nothing important. Last year i used Edge alot which seemed to work better and block EVERY ad, but I deleted that this spring.

I’ve had the same problem since ios14 launched. It’s a bummer but I’ll deal with another browser until Apple figures it out.

I think it has to do with the Password Autofill. I turned it off and no more problems.

Defeats the purpose of 1Password and Keychain, but gets over the annoyance of it freezing.

We’ll see what happens when I turn it back on...

I will try disabling this Autofill to see if anything changes. Today I had the same problem with Google, while trying to create a new account. In the first attempt it failed, then it worked later.

Between attempts we need to clear cookies/temp files, to leave the browser in a cleaned state, just to make sure.

Another problem I have with Safari is the fact there isn't forced dark mode to all sites, just like there is for the iOS FIREFOX browser. In fact Firefox is the only browser that has true dark mode, others only change the brightness, which has nothing to do with making the background look different.

Apple didn't include Safari while implementing DARK MODE, that was a stupid decision. I know some sites break when we enable dark mode, for example, if I do this in my PC, infowars.com will hide all the images, so for this site and similar ones it would be better to not enable. But that can be easily fixed if this plugin also has a whitelist for these pages, so they are excluded from this change.
