Hey guys,

I have a Macbook Pro 2020 with Catalina 10.15.7, and after the security update 2020-001, the startup Chime Sound is back with no option (in System Preferences > Audio) to disable it!

If any of you guys know a way to disable it, or lower the volume, please let me know!

I remember that a few years ago when there was a Chime sound, if I muted/lowered the system volume before shutdown, the chime would not be played, but so far it's not working on this version!

Same here with a 2018 Mac mini. In addition to the unexpected chime now sounding, I'm also seeing the Apple logo on powerup with my eGPU, which never showed before.

Same here, MacBook Pro 16" 2019. A loud chime was played during the update process. Very annoying.
Hope Apple will bring an option to disable it in the System Preference.

I don't mind the startup chime, I just wish it would follow the volume setting. With the volume muted the startup chime is muted, but with any other volume setting the chime is FULL BLAST!

When I was on Mojave, there was a command that you can type into terminal to turn it on. I’m sure the same command can be used to turn it off on Catalina.

Don't get me started with that blasted security update. My Catalina 10.15.7 would not install it. I finally had to reinstall from recovery and then migrate my data back. When it finally started up, the chime startled the bejezuz out of me.

Does anyone know how to adjust the volume of the startup chime and not just shut it off????
