I'm surprised and that no one has mentioned this, but I've been forever hating that the keys since the USBC/Touchbar MacBooks were released, is the tiny amount of clearance between the screen and the keyboard when the MacBook is closed. The keys always leave an imprint on the screen when put in a laptop bag. My new MBP 16 finally has the key clearance again like the pre-2016 MacBook pro's did...

I think this has been an issue even before the USB-C models. My 2011 Macbook Air had this problem.

I had not noticed this until seeing your post. I just checked on my new 14" MBP and I'm not seeing the skin oil transfer any longer either.

Maybe its actually the keys touching the screen on the M1 MBP’s that are having broken screen issues. I waited until the second gen came out before I upgraded, but then I needed the same ports as I already had and something bigger than 13 inches.

I just returned my 14 inch MBP for this exact reason. Every time I opened the lid I saw the outline of the spacebar on the screen (Fingergrease).
After further inspection, I noticed that the spacebar was actually a bit higher than the rest of the keys and also felt a little loose compared to the other keys.
The new replacement model I got seems to be fine.

Nice! I was mildly worried about this coming from an old Retina MBP where the keys actually rubbed off some of the coating from the screen over the years.

Very glad to hear, I have have had staingate on a couple of machines due to the keyboard touching the display.

Since I bought my 2016 I always have a sheet of A4 paper between the keyboard and the screen. Would be super nice not to have to worry about that.

Frankly the screens of both my 2016 and 2019 do not feel sturdy, they flex quite a lot. What is you view on that, will the new design protect the screen better, e.g. when in a backpack?

Check it out at the store. The new MBP’s lid is much much sturdier than my 2019 MBP 16’s lid. Worth the added weight and thickness for sure!
