I've just been trawling through sites to see what the deal if with left 4 dead on a mac is?
I've got a imac 2.66 duo,with 4gb of ram that'll run left 4 dead ok...right?

also I had some trouble installing crossover a few days back, but got it working, Is it better to download via steam or buy the game itself?

any help would be great cheers

It doesn't matter which way you buy it, you still need to install steam.

I would suggest buying the retail copy, so you can get a CD and easily restore your game if you ever reformat your computer.

I believe the game should run just fine on your iMac.

Don't run it on Crossover, it will run like crap. Run it in Bootcamp if possible.

With Steam you can download the game to any computer that you login to with your Steam ID. So your purchase is safe even if you wipe the computer without backing it up.

ok thanks for you advice, running it via bootcamp seems the best idea.

What about parallels?

And another stupid question, can I install a windows os on my mac without re-installing everything else?...if that makes sense!

Bootcamp will have the best performance because everything is running native. It'd be the same as if you had a Dell with the specs. Parallels is a virtual environment so performance won't be 100% but it's very convenient. Plus if you want to be legal, Bootcamp = Free while Parallels costs $$$ and both require a copy of Windows.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "reinstalling everything else". Installing Windows won't mess up your OSX install or any programs installed within OSX. The Windows install is seperate and is a fresh install of windows with nothing else on there.

thanks for your advice on this.

I was referring to partitioning of my hard drive, I've already got my imac up and running...could i just partition the hard drive via bootcamp and install windows without starting all over again and re-installing osx?
I'm not new to macs, just new to running and installing windows on my mac, It feels all too wrong to do it...but i want to play left 4 dead!

thanks

setting up the partition won't affect OSX or any files that already exist. just launch boot camp, follow the instructions and you're all set. Left 4 Dead runs brilliantly on my nearly 2 year old MacBook Pro so you should be fine.

Excellent, thanks for all your help!

Can anyone tell me if I run this game on bootcamp...can I still use the built in mic during the game? If not, I'll have to pick this baby up for my xbox.

THanks!

Yes, you can.

I think it'll run under crossover, just make sure you provided the "-windowed" launch flag.
