For the better part of a year my MacPro's been giving me issues on it's initial boot up. I'll hit the button, you'll hear the system click, then it will click back off. Keep hitting the button and after several attempts it will eventually boot up. Since Covid, I've been using the desk top a lot and over the course of a few months I've stumbled across a system that seems to boot the machine up after a minute or two. A couple of clicks, then a few moments of rest and then hit the power button again and voila: she purrs to life.

Today it was extremely hot in NYC and the power went out momentarily in my neighborhood. I was in the middle of a project when the system cut off. When the power cut back on though my machine never came back on. It would give me that stutter but then fail.

I suspect it's the power supply, so is she dead? I've search youtube but only found videos on replacing the PS. Can these things be repaired or do I have to pony up for a new one?

Diagnose your Mac Pro with the Apple Technician Guide first, then you start to buying components.

Mac Pro PSUs can be repaired, the problem is that the cost of repair usually is higher than the price of an used PSU on eBay, if you don't have the know how to do it yourself.

Hey man, thanks for that guide. Not sure I got the most recent one but a reset of the NVRAM seemed to allow me to boot in much easier today. Now my newest issue seems to be that one of my Apple Cinema Displays won't display the image. It still works because when I hook up my MacBook to it, it displays the screen but won't display connected to the Mac Pro. But I do want to thank you tremendously. I hope you don't mind if I lean on you for any future issues I come across

Looks like I spoke too soon. Will have to do a deep dive this weekend. SMH.

On your Apple Cinema black screen problem, could be a cable or connection issue. Years ago I had a similar problem when I’m getting random black screens with my Apple Cinema Display. After troubleshooting, the problem was with the female DVI port of the GPU, Nvidia 285 GTX. I replaced the GPU and this fixed the problem.

Thanks. Turns out that 2 of the DVI extension cables were bad. Swapped them out and I'm good again. But now my original problem persists. Can't get the damn Mac Pro to turn on. I'll try and post a video of it

Here's a video of me trying to turn the Mac Pro on. You can clearly hear it click on, then a few seconds later it will click off by itself. No light from the front of the case but the third attempt you see power is going to the USB hub attached. I did the steps in the Mac Pro guide found on page 56 "power, no boot"
