Ok so I've been laid up in bed for the past 4 days with bronchitis. The iPad has been a godsend! I was too weak to sit at the computer but it's extremely easy to curl up with the iPad and surf the net, watch a movie or read.

What a wonderful device!

Anyone else been bed ridden for a few days with your new toy?

I will be having my back surgery soon and will be laid up for several weeks. I plan to get an iPad since I think it will be much easier to use than my 15" MacBook Pro.

Ive also used it while I was sick, sick of eating too much guacamole and I was toilet-ridden. I dont think anyone would appreciate any more details about that other than to say the iPad was a God-send!!!

I'm sick in bed right now. It's perfect for this. Until I realized I hit it with a snotful sneeze.

I wish I had the iPad when I was laid up in hospital - it would have relieved so much boredom!

I'm recovering from hernia surgery and have been using my iPad an unbelievable amount every day. So much more convenient than having to get up and sit at the computer. Hopefully this week will be it and ill be back to work next week.

Would it have been much more of a problem to use a relatively small 13 inch macbook pro in bed though? I guess you'd have to sit up to use it, but if you can't do that you're probably not conscious. :)

When the iPad 3G was released on 4/30 I was home sick with a throat infection and a 102 fever. The iPad made me feel much better.:D

Not to mention that it gave me an excuse to lounge around with my new toy for the entire weekend!;)

My wife just got out of the hospital. The week she was in, I was her 24/7 companion (a must for anyone in the hospital). My new ipad really came in handy. Perfect tool since she was asleep most of the time. Hospital had very decent bandwidth wifi.

Then when she woke up, I turned her on to the ABC app and she watched Dancing with the Stars... all of them.

What a crazy thread! I had a cold the week after I bought my iPad. It was a godsend, laying in bed watching Netflix, Abc.com and being able to surf and manage my emails. ;) For once I actually stayed on top of my emails while being sick.

When I had a hurt back last week, I really could've used one. My iPhone helped out A LOT, but it would've been nicer to have an iPad. I was able to watch stuff on TV for other entertainment, but I could've used a larger screen for reading stuff. At least I had my iPhone. That was a godsend for me.

My fully-functional 15" Macbook Pro sits just fine on my lap whilst leaning or laying down on the couch.

And if I felt too weak to sit at a desk for the computer, surfing the Internet would be the least of my concerns :p

ugh, good luck with the surgery. i hope the internet is large enough for several weeks of surfing though. get some ibooks just to be sure.

Ha! I was sick for two weeks *BEFORE* I got my ipad, and believe me, I thought while I was sick about how great it would be to have it. Ah well. Next time I'm sick, I'm sure it'll be doing overtime...not that I want to be sick again anytime soon. The ipad is much more fun to use when well, after all. :p

Well, I am perfectly conscious. But I do have a hurt back...such that I am ok to walk around...even play tennis, etc. But by the evening, I usually need to lie on my back to rest for a couple of hours.

Sitting in a chair with my laptop would not relax by back...only lying on the floor. Putting laptop on floor next to me did not work. I have a 17" laptop and it is way to big to put on my chest. I also have a 12" Mac G4...still too heavy and hot...and awkward to type while it is sitting on my chest. So I got a net book...it is MUCH smaller and lighter...even allows a keyboard shortcut to rotate the screen sideways which I tried to put the thing to my side and lay on my side. None of my attempts to lay down and relax and work on my computer worked.

I dreamt up all kinds of ways to rig up a laptop over my body, hanging suspended or something. I even bought an itouch...and it was pretty cool actually as I laid there with it held in the air...but so small...only kind of useful.

Hello iPad. It is truly the first thing in 3 years since my back injury that let me stay on my back but still do a few productive things.

Agreed. I have back issues as well. A laptop can be a bit cumbersome when trying to find a good working position. The iPad is great at just about any position. While sick, I was laying with my head down on the pillow on my side. I hit the screen lock and read everything sideways.
