Another iCloud Question

Well, I've heard a lot about iCloud and it does sound very useful but I have a question about how it works. Is it more like Time Machine or like iTunes, allowing you to sync only certain things from certain apps (ical, address book, so on) to the iPod.

My main concern is, surely Pages will have support for iCloud but, how will apps like Microsoft Word work with it? Can I choose to back up certain folders on my computer? Or is iCloud locked to specific applications? iWork, Mail, iCal, iTunes, iPhoto, Address Book, so forth.

iCloud is iOS only at the moment, not mac. You can pick and choose what apps iCloud backs up from iOS, but not the specifics of what apps. Basically think of it like when iTunes does a backup of your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch, but with a little bit more control.

Pages' support that you are talking about is Documents in the Cloud, which is where documents you have on your iOS device and Mac are autosynced via iCloud (that's only a very simple explantion).

iCloud is all about providing you synchronization of data among different devices.It will provide power to access the document remotely using any of the device. It will going to work as shared drive for different application accessible from anywhere. Here is one small writeup about the same I hope you will enjoy the same:

Ah, okay, that's an interesting read. I was under the impression that it meant devices as like (keeping files in sync with iMac and MacBook Air) kinda thing, nothing to do with iOS unless you signed in with iCloud on an iPad or something.

Hopefully Apple will include support for backing up .doc though. I mean, Pages is great and all for most things but when it comes to the professional world, most people use Word.

You can upload MS Office documents to iCloud currently, but not directly from the application

Save As to iCloud will likely be the first capability we see for applications that do not integrate more smoothly...

I read that it may be hosted by Microsoft Azure, and Amazon EC2, but who knows.

There has been increasing speculation that since Apple has failed in the past when trying to put together decent cloud services, they may rely on others for this. The data center is a suspicious project based on some reports.

Apples skill and high level secrecy could make this happen and no one would know.

I would hope that they do rely on Microsoft, since they do it best.

ACtually there's iCloud API's available for apps to use, devs can add them now, with them being able to update their apps so they are out for when iOS 5 officially launches.........
