Okay, at the risk of redundancy, I'm posting another question about the Macbook Pro "Sleep" issue. Here are my settings:

Basically, the goal for me is simply being able to put the MBP to sleep via closing the lid, through the screen saver/power settings, or manually via the Apple menu, and then always requiring a password to reawaken the MBP. FYI -- I've installed all the latest firmware updates and I'm still having issues with this. I'll continue searching these forums for answers, but this thread is too also cover my back end in case I still cannot find an answer.

Please feel free to either answer back, or even post an existing thread with an answer. Thanks.

Quick update: tried a suggestion from a previous thread. Basically, shut down completely, unplug everything, remove the battery, hold power button down for around ten seconds. After doing this and plugging everything back in, no issues -- was able to "sleep" the MBP, then received the notice to enter the password in order to awaken. I remember having to do something similar to this with my old PC laptop. So, guess that's that for now. Still feel free to post if you have something to add to this solution.
