I have a late 2012 mini and I want to get a new monitor. Right now I'm running a 24 inch through HDMI but the system will not let me control the volume through the keyboard buttons.

I don't use an external speaker set so I want the sound through the built-in speakers on a monitor. Are there any monitors out there (besides the Apple one) where the volume can be controlled from the keyboard? Or does this require the use of a Thunderbolt connection?

TIA
DLM

It's a classic problem with OS X : the HDMI audio output is a line in digital output, and OS X will not control the volume. It works with Windows, but with audio degradation.

Yes. The USB version. (Not BlueTooth.)

In which case your problem could be as suggested by Dandu (above).

Your best solution would be to go with external speakers….. You will get much better audio than any monitor mounted speakers can offer.

If you must use a monitor with integrated speakers, get one with a audio port to connect to the port on your Mini.

I've had Harman Kardon since my first eMac, once you move over to a separate audio system your setup really shines.

Go for it, not sure what others work with the official keyboard as I gues many could well do nowadays.Big thumbs up for the Harmen kit from me, perhaps others can chime in on whether theirs do what you want?
