Im getting tired of waiting for the refresh and soon to be getting a new iMac. Im still considering getting either of the 21.5 models (27 is too big). Im a general user websurfing, music listening (bit of gaming ... but i have the xbox for that) and I watch ALOT of anime. For that reason I need Media Player Class which is windows only (not the only reason Im getting Parallels for it but one of the main reasons). I hate VLC and seen the other addons like Perian etc ... but I want my transition to iMac to be painless. I was wondering .....

On the VM of Windows 7 would I be able to connect to the internet by add the wireless of the iMac? I want to be able to torrent on Windows 7 VM if possible and not do that on my OSX. Also is running VM CPU or RAM (or even GPU) intensive? Ill by doing alot of my movie/anime watching on 1080p aswell as other tasks on VM and want things to go smooth as possible. Which sorta goes back to the first question of whether I need the low or high end iMac.

Cheers in advance.

Almost sounds like you don't even want to transition to a Mac:

Sounds like you just want a new Windows machine.

Well I wanted to cut a long story short and listed the main reason why I want to use VM windows. Due to work though I need a mac (which I use at work) but I currently dont have at home, but I dont wanna bore with details.

Answer away :D

The low end Mac shall suffice, but think about adding an additional 4GB of RAM via a third party retailer.
And a VM is capable of connecting to the internet.

Btw, you could do all you just mentioned in Mac OS X. VLC Player is quite okay in Mac OS X and there are alternatives like Movist or MPlayer.

It would be a waste of resources to use Windows for tasks Mac OS X is more than capable of.

Helpful Information for Any Mac User by GGJstudios

1. Internet will work fine in Parallels but I would use OS X for torrents as in case the torrent has malware in it, it cannot affect OS X but it can affect Windows.

2. VM is mainly RAM intensive because each OS will require at least few hundred MBs of RAM. Get at least 8GB.

3. I don't know how well a 1080p movie will run in VM. At least gaming is horrible and nowadays video playback is accelerated by the GPU so it may not work perfectly. Why can't you just use OS X for that? Try Plex for example, it's amazing.

4. Any iMac should be fine
