Another perfect MBP (I think... touch wood...)

Well, I've had it for 6 days and I think it's now safe to post here.

My new MPB is wonderful - it's everything I expected. Darn good thing too considering how long it took me to save up the money for it.

I was blown away by the quality and brightness of the screen. This is the first time I've owned a laptop where I didn't always have to have it on maximum brightness.

There are no dead or stuck pixels, and no leakage nor gradient issues that I can detect. However, I was a little upset when I noticed the screen looks a bit yellow next to my new 20" Cinema Display. But those worries went away when I compared both of them to the iBook I've been using for the past 2-3 years, which was much yellower than the MBP. I think the problem is not that my MBP is yellow, but the CD is whiter-than-white. It might annoy me if I was a graphics pro, but I'm not, so I'm happy.

I also had a little scare after my Firewire ports packed in after using an old FW800 cable that I later discovered to be faulty. I re-booted a couple of times and all seems fine now - I hope that problem doesn't come back. The offending cable is now in the bin.

Those two little scares aside, it is perfect. Long may it stay that way... please!

the display is yellow compared to pretty much any other LCD, its just the color profile apples uses by default, you can change it in the display settings to match the acd if you want

As for the yellowing issue - as already said just calibrate your monitor (sounds like your MBP is free from the yellow tint issue that only affected bottom of the screen). There is a few calibrations floating around for you to try, or make your own.

Oh yes! But I am still in love with my old iBook. I'm not normally an emotional person, but my iBook has been so reliable, so faithful and such a hard worker. For basic Web/Mail/iTunes/Office, there's still absolutely nothing wrong with it. I'm keeping it as a spare.

Ha! I'd previously tried to callibrate the LCD, but I just found it too fiddly. BUT - I had another go, just now. It's almost as white as my CD!!! Thanks for the tip, I'm way happy!

They're my old Celestion 3's! They're 17 years old and still sound great! They're connected through my old Denon amp, which is a similar age and sounds just as good - (although I do periodically take a soldering iron to it).

Not sure where you're from, but in the UK we say '(comment/observation), touch wood' Of course I have to actually tap a nearby piece of wood at the same time, to make sure I don't jinx it.
