It appears someone has setup an AppleID off my personal email account that I've had for well over ten years. I was only made aware that this account existed because they started trying to reset the password and I thought someone was trying to access my AppleID linked off another email address. (All mailboxes on iPhone) I then going directly to the apple website reset the password thinking perhaps I had an account there because that email address is linked as a recovery on my AppleID and found someone else's name and unknown security questions.

I was very surprised that it's possible for someone to create an account without having access to verify the email account.

I called Apple Security to report this but it's turned out to be a big deal to protect the privacy of the other party. All I want is to have their account separated from my email address and preferably make it impossible for people to activate accounts using email they don't have access to. It's staggering it's even possible!

After verifying to Apple support that I received their confirmation code I am waiting to hear back from Apple Engineering to see if anything can be done...

is it possible that you accidentally confirmed your email address during the initial creation of the Apple ID? I cannot believe that there's a way around that.

Perhaps that person also has your email address or added your email as a secondary.

In regards to privacy, I have to agree with you. I cannot disclose the details my 20 month case with apple but I know nearly 40 people had to wait weeks to get their replacement devices or have had genius appointments cancelled.

Too many staff reassigned to emojis creation. Apple and Google are becoming very similar with backend customer support.

Just curious, is it a gmail account?

My gmail is first.middle.last@gmail.com

Apparently there's a guy in New York whose wife loves shopping at Macy's, and returning things. I get all her digital receipts. His email is firstmiddlelast@gmail.com, same names though.

With gmail, from what I've read, it doesn't care if you have the periods or not. I'm not sure how they were able to make their email though.
