As an educator in Georgia I just got this email "Tax Takes a Holiday: Shop extended hours and pay no sales tax on Mac computers and more at the Apple store, August 2-5." My immediate thought was, "the timing certainly indicates a product blowout to make way for a new rollout on the 7th." What do you all think: am I on to something or an I full of it (wouldn't be the first time).

Sounds like a reasonable suspicion to me. Odd, though, that a store can suspend sales tax. Maybe that means that the prices will be cut so that the sales tax will kick them up to the normal price?

Some states have a tax-free day or days right around the beginning of August.

Sorry to burst the bubble on this. Many States suspend sales tax on items that are considered school supplies for a short time each summer. Often the first weekend in August. This includes everything from school clothing, to pencils, paper and, yes, computers and peripherals. Many retail outlets are advertising this same "sale" for the upcoming weekend.

I don't think this is any indicator of new hardware from Apple being immanent.

I got that email too. That is the states tax free weekend. It is not something Apple came up with. The limit of $1500 is on computers. They also do it for clothes and things of that nature.
