This report is another reminder why laptops, iMacs and all-in-one devices are not Mac Pro's and are not really up for the task when it comes to intensive operations or CPU & GPU simultaneous operations, like video editing & video rendering. These machines get stressed, get hot, and throttling is NOT what Pros expect as a result.

I avoided the trashcan MacPro and I'm still on an older MBP with an NVIDIA GPU. I have found that AMD GPUs just do not work as well with non-Apple software on Mac. Really hope NVIDIA and Apple can workout a solution for getting NVIDIA cards in the new MacPro7,1 but I'm more crossing my fingers than expecting it. Would also be great to see MacBookPro's able to work with NVIDIA GPUs or have built-in in the future, but I'd settle for an NVIDIA eGPU solution on that end.

It looks like that particular test benefits from multi-core performance. An iMac Pro, even the 8 core base model, would probably do better than the 12 core nMP.

It's not likely we'll see Nvidia in the Mac Pro 7,1. I think AMD is better though, especially Vega with HBM2. Nvidia has a history of some pretty rotten business practices, like their anti-competitive GeForce Partner Program. So Red Team all the way. Except I did go for an Nvidia card for my EFI Metal GPU, but only because the 7950's EFI doesn't play well with Boot Camp.

it's not laptops that are the problem it's just apple as it is now....(id gess that laptop is relay made to sell the £1,000 laptops)

there are lots of laptops with high end cpu/gpu that have been designed around the thermal limits of the parts, there fast and work.

the problem is apple has lost there way and not redesigned the laptop to deal with the heat, fail over function.

it's apple that is the problem, just think of an imac pro a tad thicker for extra cooling and some easy way to upgrade the unit from the back without display removal, maybe even the PCB broken in to different parts so if a failure happens you dont have to replace everything.
or even a macmin with a good cpu, eGPU, 32GB ram ^^ gaffer taped to the back of a display imacpro mk2 XD
