Another specific question: pdfs from websites

I am thinking of getting an ipad as a productivity tool.

But, a lot of the time, I have to download and read pdf files that I find on-line (in education, pdfs are everywhere!).

I mean -- is this real??? That's how you get pdfs on the ipad??? What about clicking on a url link to a pdf in the browser? Does a) the pdf open up and, if so, b) can you save it to the ipad?

You can use goodreader to download PDFs or other files to your iPad. Simply place a g in front of the PDF or file web address in a web browser and it will open up goodreader and download. Goodreader can also download files in the program itself.

Also, I use dropbox along with goodreader to sync from my pc.

Thanks for the reply. So you can't just be surfing the web, see a paper linked via pdf, click to open, save, and go back later to read it?

Maybe I'm missing something on the ipad: is there no "documents" space generic to the ipad user? Do documents only get stored in applications (and therefore goodreader becomes the app to store your pdfs)?

Is there then any way to get the app off the ipad and onto your computer? Can you e-mail those documents out of good reader?

I figured one would have use something like Downloader

That's correct on just surfing the web and trying to save. You just have to add the "g" in front and it downloads it. If you don't want to use drop box there is also wifi syncing built-in to goodreader to get the files to/from your pc.

I just don't want to have to use iTunes to move files to/from my iPad. I'm good with itunes for entertainment, but not for docs.
