I just went to Carphone Warehouse to buy an iPhone with the intention of unlocking/jailbreaking it for my existing O2 sim.

However, they wouldn't just sell me the phone - they wanted me to register with o2 there and then.

I thought one was supposed to be able to do all that stuff at home through iTunes? Or is it just a case of filling in the crap there and just not activating it at home?

Sorry for the stupidity...

The nearest 02 store is a bus ride away - you reckon they'll let me walk out with the phone without all of the registration crap?

The only ones who pester you with on site registration is Carphone Warehouse… Apple and O2 let you do it in the comfort of your own home/office etc…
CPWH will also try and pressure you into unneeded insurance with scare stories. There is a thread somewhere here on them being reported to BBC's Watchdog last week.

Thanks for your help!
