Hi guys,
I tried to do some searching but what I found didn't make too much sense or I could not find a proper review for it.

Are there any apps, either jailbreak or from the app store, where if your iPhone is stolen, you can track its location?
One of the apps I read about required you to send a text to your phone number to activate the tracking, but what if the thief already changed the phone to his number?

Also, if you have to click on the app in order to activate it, that kind of defeats the purpose, unless the thief is stupid enough to activate the app.
Thanks to all!

Well yes I can set a password and tell it to wipe after 10 tries, but...
I'm a teenage guy, and naturally, I have stupid friends. Stupid friends who will try to steal my phone and break into it and end up wiping all my data.

Also, its not so much worried about the thief using it that I'm worried about, I just want my iPhone back. Besides, if I just lose it and someone wants to get into my information in order to return it to me, that will be impossible with a password.

Do you know the name of the app by any chance?

Here's what I suggest: Using any image editing program, (Or Notes + Scribble apps) set your background to a picture with something along the lines of:

If found, please return this iPhone to <your contact info>
<perhaps offer reward here>

That way, you can set a password without risking human kindness. Doesn't help original problem, but can still help.

That's a very good idea, but while searching I found an app called "If Found" which does this very easily and very well for you. Just thought you might be interested.

Thanks for all the replies, I will look into Cylay.

Instamapper 1.2.2 [App Store] is EXACTLY what you are looking for.
You sign up for a free account at their site, and it's sync's the location of your device (through GPS) to the nearest meter.

thanks everyone, i took the plunge and bought cylay.

my only worry is if the phone is stolen, you are supposed to send a text message to your number to start tracking it. If the thief was to replace the sim card, then this wouldn't work.
???

thanks everybody

Depends how long it takes you to notice. Also the iPhone is not like most phones where somebody walking down the street is just popping the sim card out. Hell, a stupid thief might not even know that its in there.
